Chasen Thajni: breaking in/to the silence works in two dimensions, the first one is developed in the community of Santa Inés Ahuatempan, in the lower Mixteca of the state of Puebla. In this community, the artist builds, with the help of members of his ethnic group Ngiba, a community space called "CHASEN THAJNI".

CHASEN THAJNI: THE HOUSE OF ALL
is made from endemic materials and techniques typical of traditional Ngiba "constructions", and works as a mobile architecture; temporarily installed in the center of the community, appropriates time and space to offer various activities/activations around Ngiba language and tradition. These activities are mainly aimed at and managed by the community but are open to the general public. Thus, Chasen Thajni becomes a space to summon and gather the maternal voice, but also to shelter and protect it: affirming the need for listening and the presence of the Ngiba voice.

​The second part of this work works as an intervention in a specific site at the Carrillo Gil Art Museum. The artist, through ambient microphones, captures and transmits in real time the sounds that "meet" around CHASEN THAJNI; a simple speaker in the museum disperses the sound; speaks and silences in relation to the voice or silence of the community, but also in relation to the stability and instability of the technological capacity and digital connection of the Mixteca region.
